神話表達人生比科學更確切，也更屬于個人。（榮格）
《夢：私我的神話》251頁有這麼一段話：
我們每個人都會在從小長大的過程中形成一套個人的神話，這是從我們的文化中現行的迷思創造出來的，卻能符合我們每個人的心理動力需求。
個人的神話和集體的神話一樣是一種信念系統，對于個人的作用，也和集體神話對整個社會的作用相似。
個人的神話可能效用良好，可能機能不彰，可能適合當前的處境，可能徹底過時。
好的個人神話是用于適應的：可以促成人格結構和人生處境情緒上的調合，有益適應現實環境。
機能不彰的神話卻是不利適應的信念系統，結果導致不快樂或厄運，以致不得不找心理分析醫生的幫忙。
