中國人相信，魂離了身體不但會導致做夢、瘋顛、也會引起幻視、恍忽、昏厥。離魂者可以與陰界相通，能理解神喻。由于離魂狀態是極受重視的經驗，所以中國人也會像埃及人、希臘人那樣，刻意醞釀誘導夢的發生。（《《夢：私我的神話》, 20頁》）
