夢：私我的神話〈Private Myths: Dreams & Dreaming〉31
按榮格的看法，利用夢和積極想象把自我帶進成型的世界，動員超越性的功能，這才是心理分析的目的。西非的民間信仰也表達了類似的概念：人降生之前要與天上的另一個自己擬定契約，降生後一切按契約行事－－要活多久、在社群中擔負什麼任務、娶嫁什麼人、生幾個孩子等等，無一例外。擬好契約後，你就被帶到“遺忘之樹”面前，立刻把契約內容忘光了。可是你在人世所做的一切都必須與契約相符，否則你就會生病，所以你得求占卜者幫忙，他會用各種方法聯系天上的另一個你，問清楚有那些項目是你沒做到的。在現代西方社會里，占卜者的職務就由心理分析師代勞了。（《夢：私我的神話》238頁）
