私我的神話〈Private Myths: Dreams & Dreaming〉11
有一項發現特別引起榮格的注意：不同的精神病患會有相似的妄想與幻覺，而且，全世界各個民族的神話和童話故事內容都有類似之處。
榮格因而相信，心智和大腦之中一定存在某種普世一同的結構，所有人類的經驗與行為都從這個結構的基礎形成。他創出“集體潛意識”來形容這種人類共同的基礎層，以便與佛洛伊德精神分析學說純粹個人的潛意識有所區別。（《夢：私我的神話》64頁）
