一個想到中西部小鎮度假的美國人，寫了以下這封信去預訂旅館房間：
我想帶愛犬同行。它是只打扮體面，彬彬有禮的“紳士狗”。我可否要求讓它留在房裏過夜？
旅館老板立刻來函回復：
我經營這家旅館近十幾年了，這段期間，沒有一位“狗”顧客有偷窺毛巾、浴袍、餐具或是墻上圖畫的紀錄。
它們不曾在半夜喝酒鬧事，而被我趕出旅館，也不會沒付帳就溜之大吉。
歡迎閣下的愛犬成為本店貴客。如果它能保證閣下的行為，也歡迎閣下一起光臨本店。（摘自《服務美國》
