高宣揚：論梅洛－龐蒂的生命現象學（5）
一部小說，一首詩，一幅畫，一段樂曲，都是個體，人們是不能區分其中表達和被表達的部分，它們的意義只有透過一種直接聯系才能被理解，當它們向四周傳播其意義時，它們並不離開其時間和空間位置的存在。正是在這個意義上說，我們的身體可以同藝術相比擬。
梅洛－龐蒂很重視“觀看”的方式。他還以人的眼睛的視覺為例，說明身體感受對於美（la beauté）的鑒賞的重要意義。在全球化的現代社會中，人們在消費活動中，往往首先靠眼睛視覺所提供的信息，選擇自己的消費對象，並在購買、使用和交流消費品的過程中，靠眼睛視覺的對比和鑒賞，來決定對於消費品的判斷。由此可見，在品鑒消費品及其美感的時候，始終是身體，特別是眼睛，在向我們自己說話，在向我們自己表現對象，並同時實現對於對象的鑒賞判斷。…
