From “Mystery” to “Stillness” — The Metaphysical Beauty of Tango,Note by Chen Zhen
The call and echo between mystery and stillness drive tango’s emotion to its furthest edge. A fury like fire, a surge like blood— such imagery is no exaggeration. Every glance, every turn, every moment caught in suspension dresses tango in a crimson, spectral hue.
A praise near to prayer summons tango beyond the world of dance. In an instant’s orbit of space and flesh, the body curves, glides, freezes— then bends, glides once more. That breath of pause— the threshold between love and desire, life and death, reason and struggle.
Within this exquisite tension, tango sails into the secret realm, down the hidden path. Beyond brilliance and the sublime, art enters a domain called mystery. In the passions of the human world, it is divine; on the road toward transcendence, it keeps its secrets close.
The dancer, perhaps like the watcher, exists not in a single, present dimension. If some spell could make us slip seamlessly into our own most restless layer of being— how vast the world would grow, how countless the choices.
That fleeting stillness— we call it a threshold, because it makes us stop, and draw a sigh.
